AI ChatBots: Where are they being used?

Stop building another AI wrapper. OpenAI just gave founders a treasure map. 1.1 million chatbot conversations were analyzed. The results show exactly how people are actually using AI. And it is not what most founders think.

Two categories dominate user behavior:

  • Writing (28.1%)
  • Practical Guidance (28.3%)
This is where AI is already entrenched. But the real signal is in the details. Here is where the opportunities are hiding:

  1. 10.6% of all use cases are "Edit or Critique Provided Text."
    • This is not a broad writing tool.
    • This is precision editing at scale.
    •  A massive pain point waiting for a focused solution.
  2. 10.2% of all use cases are "Tutoring or Teaching."
    • Education is being redefined.
    • Founders who specialize here will own the future of learning.
    1. And do not ignore the "smaller" slices.
  3. Health, Fitness, Beauty or Self Care (5.7%).
    • Multi-billion dollar industries.
    • People already want AI-driven guidance here.
  4. Computer Programming (4.2%).
    • Developers are looking for debugging, analysis, and code help.
    • This is a ready-made market.
  5. Creative Ideation (3.9%).
    • Structured brainstorming is in demand.
    • AI can power the next generation of idea engines.
Even "Seeking Information" (21.3%) reveals a hidden gap.
Only 2.1% is tied to "Purchasable Products." This means AI is not yet winning in e-commerce.
Founders who solve this create the next wave of AI-native shopping.

The bottom line:
AI adoption is not random anymore. It is focused, specific, and practical. The founders who win will stop chasing hype. They will go deeper into these exact use cases.

What opportunities do you see in this data?
