Coaching/Leading is not just about winning races: it’s about
building people. Too often, victory is seen as the only measure of
success. But Coaching/Leading is much more: it’s responsibility, vision, and the
ability to guide athletes in their growth. Over the years, from working
with diversified teams in the IT profession or working as mentor of FFD, I’ve realized that our profession rests on
three pillars:
- Development:
helping participants grow physically, mentally, and socially.
- Victory:
not only a result, but the consequence of a well-structured process.
- Enjoyment:
not superficial lightness, but the confirmation that the journey is solid.
Victory is part of any discipline, but it must not become an
obsession. Development is the true measure of success, the one that lasts
a lifetime. And enjoyment? It comes when the participant feels competent, prepared,
and ready for the challenge. True enjoyment comes from knowing that
consistent commitment and demanding work bring lasting results, even for the
most talented.
For a Coach/Leader, the challenge is to find balance: winning without betraying
growth, fostering development without losing ambition, and ensuring that
enjoyment is the natural consequence of the journey.
And you? Have you ever reflected on what makes a program truly sustainable and
how this philosophy takes shape in daily practice?
