Most Indians are protein-deficient without even realizing it. For many, protein continues to be associated with Gym trainers, Athletes, and Bodybuilders. It is seen as optional, even indulgent something you take if you want a six-pack, not something essential for everyday living.
But step back for a moment and look at the evidence in real life.
- The patient who heals slowly after surgery.
- The adult in their 40s who cannot shake off fatigue despite “eating well”.
- The senior citizen who seems to age faster because their muscle mass is melting away.
These are not simply “age-related issues” as people often dismiss them. They
are, more often than not, “protein issues”. Here lies the paradox of our food culture.
- We eat a lot, but we nourish very little.
- Our plates are filled with rice, roti's, and potatoes.
- Calories are abundant, but nutrients are scarce.
And so, like building a house with sand, the structure may stand for a while,
but the strength is absent. Protein is not a supplement. It is the quiet worker in the background,
repairing, healing, protecting, fueling. It is less about muscle-building and more about life-building.
Over the years, one lesson emerges repeatedly - Health is not about eating
more, it is about eating enough of the right things. And the right things are not complicated. Not powders, not imported bars, not expensive substitutes.
Just one extra bowl of dal, A serving of curd, A piece of tofu, fish, or
chicken added deliberately, daily.
The smallest of additions, when practiced consistently, often become the
largest of differences in how one feels, heals, and ages.
P.S. When was the last time you checked if your plate had enough protein?
