What’s one lesson
you’ve learned with age that you wish you knew earlier?
At 40, after years as a psychotherapist and trainer, here are the truths I wish
I had known in my 20s:
Say what people want to hear—master your impulses: Not every thought needs to be spoken.
Influence often lies in restraint.
You get back what you give, multiplied—good or bad: Your words and energy don’t disappear;
they echo, amplified.
People will disappoint or betray you: No one exists to fulfill your happiness.
Letting go of this expectation is liberating.
Death is unpredictable: Time is life’s rarest currency. Guard
it, spend it wisely, and treat time management as an art.
Set clear limits: High tolerance builds resilience, but
don’t absorb everything. Low tolerance attracts attention, but risks isolation.
Boundaries are your compass for survival.
These insights cost me two decades of living, stumbling, and learning. If
you’re younger, may they save you some pain. If you’re older, I’d love to learn
from your hard-earned wisdom.
