Over the last month, I tried something interesting with sugar in our kitchen. It worked better than I expected. Most people think the solution to reducing sugar is to quit it completely. I don’t think that’s necessary.
Sugar is simply glucose a form of energy. The real problem begins when it becomes too frequent and too much, turning into a habit the body starts depending on.
So I experimented with a simple 3-step approach to gradually reduce sugar at home.
1. Replace, don’t remove
I discovered Trunativ Everyday, a monk fruit–based sweetener that looks almost exactly like raw sugar. The taste is surprisingly similar too (monk fruit is naturally much sweeter).
2. Gradual substitution
Instead of removing sugar completely, I started with a mix.
If our coffee needed 3 teaspoons for the three of us
→ 1.5 tsp sugar
→ 1.5 tsp monk fruit sweetener
3. Slowly shift the ratio
Over the weeks it became 50:50 → 25:75 → and now 100% monk fruit.
The fun part is that the kids haven’t even noticed the change. We now use it not just for coffee but for desserts as well. Small swaps like this often work better than extreme restrictions. The body adapts quietly when the transition is gradual.
Sometimes improving health isn’t about removing things from life. It’s simply about changing the form they come in.
