Your lifestyle speaks louder than your genes. One of the biggest myths I still hear is "Diabetes is genetic. Nothing can be done about it." The science tells us a much more hopeful story. While genetics play a role, they are only one part of the equation.
What has an even bigger influence is epigenetics the way your daily habits
influence how your genes behave. This is why two siblings with the same family history can have completely
different health outcomes. Every meal you eat, every night of quality sleep, every walk in nature. Every moment you spend reducing stress, every hour of physical activity. These are not just healthy habits.
They are biological signals that communicate with your body. Research has shown that reducing stress and inflammation can positively
influence the pathways involved in metabolic health. The body is constantly
responding to the environment we create for it. The same applies to nutrition.
Natural sources of Folate, adequate vitamin B12, vitamin B6, Choline, and a
whole-food plant-based diet provide your cells with the nutrients they need to
function and repair effectively. This is why I often say that reversal is never about finding one magic food,
one medicine, or one supplement.
It is about changing the environment in which your genes operate. Your body is listening to your choices every single day and that's empowering. Because while you cannot change the genes you were born with, you can influence
how they are expressed through the way you eat, sleep, move, breathe, and live. That is where the real opportunity for better metabolic health begins.
Sometimes, the right understanding is the first step toward better health.
