Gaining weight is a sign of a healthy metabolism. Let me explain why you should stop panicking when the scale moves up a kilo or two.
When we would see 30 to 50 kids daily, The
first question he'd ask every parent? "Has your child gained weight?" Not lost.... "Gained"...Why?
Because when you're feeding a human body storing that energy means the
metabolism is functioning well. It's a classic sign of health. If a child wasn't gaining weight for months, that's when he'd worry.
Investigations would start. The same logic applies to you.
Wedding season, winter indulgences, travel... any of these can easily put you
in a calorie surplus. You come back, step on the scale, bam... 2-3 kilos up.
That's not a problem. That's your body doing its job.
But what matters is... if those kilos don't come off in a month or two once
you're back to routine, that's when your weight management systems need
attention. And more importantly, where are you gaining the weight? In muscle? In fat? In
your organs?
If you have a predisposition for visceral fat or organ fat, that's what needs
your focus. When you spend 8-9 months eating right, exercising, and managing your weight
well, you're training your metabolism to handle those 2-3 months of surplus.
That's the whole point of staying disciplined most of the year. So stop fearing the scale. Gaining weight is fine. Gaining too much weight, or gaining it in the wrong
places, is what you need to watch.
