Is obesity really genetic… or environmental?

Here are 3 uncomfortable truths about family obesity. If everyone in the house is gaining weight, we often label it as genetic. That feels easier. But it’s rarely the full truth.

Truth #1: It’s genetic but far more environmental.

Husband and wife don’t share genes, yet often share obesity. Children inherit genes from both sides, yes. But when even the naturally thin child starts gaining weight, it’s a loud signal.

->oils, refined carbs, portions, routines the environment is driving it.

Truth #2: Children don’t obey....They imitate.

They may ignore what you say, what you do. Fit parents raise fit children. Sedentary parents raise sedentary children. Clean up your lifestyle first then talk about the kids.

Truth #3: Obesity is sustained over-nutrition + low movement.

There’s no mystery here. And after weight loss, the family’s responsibility is physical activity together. It takes one person to change a family. One parent. One role model.

I’ve seen families lose 70+ kg together, and more importantly, give their children a lifetime of fitness.

That decision shaped generations. Be that one person. You’re not just changing weight you’re changing family genetics.
