Being tired all the time deserves attention. If you are experiencing persistent fatigue, hair fall or breathlessness, please don’t dismiss it as a busy life. These symptoms can have several causes. Low iron is one possibility.
Here are five things I want people to pay attention to
- Include Iron-rich foods daily: Garden cress seeds (halim), sesame seeds, leafy vegetables and legumes can contribute to your iron intake.
- Pair them with vitamin C: Add lemon to your dal or greens, or include amla or guava with your meal to support iron absorption.
- Look beyond Iron alone: A varied diet also provides nutrients such as folate, vitamin B12 and copper, which support healthy blood cell production.
- Keep tea and coffee away from meals: They can reduce the absorption of iron from plant foods.
- Get tested and follow up: Your doctor may recommend a complete blood count, serum ferritin and other iron studies. If your periods are heavy, investigate the cause too.
Food supports recovery, but established iron deficiency may need treatment.
Tablets or an IV infusion should be chosen based on your reports, symptoms and
response to treatment. You deserve enough energy to live your day, not just get through it.
