Protein, strength training, fiber. Where to begin? There’s so much advice around these three that even getting started can feel like homework. Let us simplify it.
1. Include protein in your everyday meals.
Look at what you usually eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Where is the
protein? Dal, beans, curd, paneer, tofu, eggs, fish or chicken there are plenty of
options. You don’t have to start by buying protein biscuits and bars. First, get used to
including a protein source in your meals. The amount you need will depend on
your individual requirements.
2. Make time for strength training every week.
You can spend weeks comparing gyms and workout plans. Choose something you can
attend consistently, two or three times a week. Include suitable variations of a squat, hinge, push, pull and carry. Learn the
movements properly and increase the challenge gradually. The equipment can be simple. Good technique and regular practice matter.
3. Make room for fibre on your plate.
Include vegetables with meals, eat whole fruit, and bring variety through dals,
beans and whole grains. A little salad at lunch is a start, but look at what you’re eating across the
day. Before adding another product to your shopping cart, take a look at your meals
and your weekly routine. You may already know a few things you could change.
