You Think You’re a Rational Decision Maker? Think Again.
We all love to believe that our decisions are based on
logic, data, and rational thinking.
But here’s the truth, your brain is
secretly tricking you every single day.
One of the most fascinating traps it sets is called the
Anchoring Bias. It happens when the first piece of information we receive
becomes our mental “anchor” and everything else we judge revolves around it.
When a candidate reveals their old salary, HR gets anchored to that number.
When a manager forms an early impression, the annual review quietly follows
that anchor.
When a broker shows you one “perfect”
property first, every other option feels inferior.
This is how smart people make not-so-smart decisions, without realizing it. Now
here’s the solution and it comes from Vedic wisdom:
“Pragyanam Brahma” Awareness is
Divinity.
When we name our biases, we disarm them. Next time you’re in a negotiation, meeting, or
appraisal call the bias out, respectfully.
It instantly makes people self-aware and
fairer in their judgment.
Your Turn: When was the last time you got caught in an anchoring bias?
Or noticed someone else fall for it? Share your experience in the comments
And tag that one friend or colleague who believes they’re “too rational to be
biased.”
